Language and translating content[edit]

Hi, folks.

Just my two cents on the problem of translation. I just had a look at Help:Tutorial and almost lost it. That text was not understandable at all for English speakers, full of literally translated German idioms and syntactic structures. If you rely on the average pupil for translating all your content into English (I haven't had a look into your English game version yet. I just hope that has been done more thoroughly!) you will probably scare away more people from non-German speaking areas than you can attract with your new game edition. Get a professional translation, or at least carefully select helpers with decent language skills for the initial translations. --188.92.232.163 17:10, 11 January 2010 (CET)

To have the talk page link's label changed to "discussion" to make it fit the German counter part may also create more confusion than it prevents, esp. since the namespaces are still called "talk". --134.96.164.183 12:25, 13 January 2010 (CET)
With the namesspaces you are right, i will change that. On the other hand the translations of the wiki texts are mostly done by german player and i don't think we have alot of native english speakers here by now. But you are welcome to fix texts. This does not has to be a 1:1 translation. It should be understable and as complete as possible. So feel free and help if you can ;) --Tiramon 17:43, 13 January 2010 (CET)
just recognized this discussion/talk thing is a mediawiki default setting .. it can also be found at wikipedia --Tiramon 17:45, 13 January 2010 (CET)
I'm not a native speaker of English. My fear was that you won't attract any native speakers with this project, if translation quality stays as low as it is now. A clear start with an empty wiki, would probably be much more attractive to people playing English FW than the badly translated German content. Provided that the game is translated properly of course. --188.92.232.163 21:40, 14 January 2010 (CET)

old stagers[edit]

I have seen that on the Main Page the article to the Link "old Stagers" does not exist... but in my talk i have seen in the welcome message that it is already existent, linked with Category:Constant_Authors i think this should be changed as soon as possible --Karill Endusa 17:40, 17 June 2010 (CEST)

Done.svg done the link wasn't translated --Galak cry here 23:26, 17 June 2010 (CEST)

Delusions of Grandeur ..[edit]

Hello ev´ryone,

I´ve just had the pleasure to fix DEnglisch completely re-create Project:Guidelines. Thus I have to ask y´all the question: Does it really make sense to aim for the skies, trying to C&P everything from our german counterpart, while not having enough manpower to translate everything?

Simply put, I would say: No.

This Wiki, as of now, is a complete catastrophe. There is so much work to be done, that I cannot even possibly say where to start, let alone estimate how long it´ll take to finish everything neatly. As of now, this wannabe-system is rather scaring away newcomers, so, additionally, we´re stuck in a vicious cycle, as we cannot possibly expect any reinforcements, unless we directly recruit them from somewhere, where people know that this thing´s a catastrophe, yet will try to improve it nonetheless.

TL;DR. Anyone who is still in here and working (even if only rarely), please, report in. Thanks. FTLK_A_small.pngFTLK, umadbro? 11:30, 21 January 2012 (CET)
